Independent guide. Details like opening hours, prices, entry rules and fees change, so confirm with the official sources linked on this page before you travel. Some booking links may earn us a commission at no cost to you (disclosure).
Most new residents open a local account soon after arriving to get paid, pay rent and set up utilities. Banks in the Cayman Islands are licensed and supervised by the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA), and you can check a bank's licence in CIMA's regulated entities search.
Documents banks typically ask for
- ☐ Valid passport (and often a second photo ID)
- ☐ Proof of your local address, such as a lease or utility bill
- ☐ Work permit or residency documents
- ☐ Employer letter confirming your job and salary
- ☐ A bank reference letter from your current bank
- ☐ Information on the source of your funds
Requirements differ by bank and are driven by anti-money-laundering rules, so ask each bank for its current list before your appointment.
