Quick answer
Most first-time visitors base themselves along Seven Mile Beach for the beach, restaurants and resorts. Choose West Bay for a quieter stay close to the beach, George Town for convenience and cruise-port access, and the North Side / Rum Point or East End for a slower, more remote trip with easy access to reef diving.
Areas at a glance
| Area | Best for | Keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Seven Mile Beach | First-timers, families, beach days, dining | Busiest and usually priciest stretch |
| West Bay | Quieter beaches, snorkeling, villas | A drive or bus ride to George Town |
| George Town | Walking to shops, harbour, ferries to tours | Busy on cruise-ship days |
| North Side / Rum Point | Calm water, Starfish Point, a relaxed pace | You'll likely want a rental car |
| East End | Shore diving, wild coastline, privacy | Far from nightlife and most restaurants |
Hotels, condos or villas?
Grand Cayman has large beachfront resorts, plenty of self-catering condos (handy for families, since eating out adds up) and private villas, especially in West Bay and the North Side. Condo complexes along Seven Mile Beach are a popular middle ground.
Sister Islands
For something much quieter, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman are a short domestic flight away and are known for diving and nature. See getting there.
