Moving to the Cayman Islands: A Step-by-Step Guide
Independent guide. Details like opening hours, prices, entry rules and fees change, so confirm with the official sources linked on this page before you travel. Some booking links may earn us a commission at no cost to you (disclosure).
Start with immigration
Most people move to Cayman on a work permit sponsored by an employer. Workforce Opportunities & Residency Cayman (WORC) handles work permits and residency, and other routes exist for investors, retirees and people with independent means. Rules and fees change, so always work from WORC's current guidance.
Practical checklist
- Confirm your immigration route with WORC (or a licensed Cayman immigration attorney).
- Line up housing. Most newcomers rent first; look at the areas in our area guide.
- Open a local bank account. Banks are regulated by CIMA and will ask for ID and references.
- Arrange health insurance, which is mandatory for employees.
- Research schools early if you have children, since private-school places can be limited.
- Learn about driving: Cayman drives on the left.
